By Rishab VM

The US Open mixed doubles championship is one of the most exciting events in tennis, showcasing the unique blend of male and female talent on the court.

Over the past five editions, the tournament has seen a variety of champions, each pairing demonstrating their skill, teamwork, and resilience to claim the title. Let's take a closer look at the winners from 2018 to 2023 and how they achieved their victories.

Desirae Krawczyk from the United States and Joe Salisbury from the United Kingdom feature among the last 5 mixed doubles winners in US Open

In 2018, the dynamic duo of Bethanie Mattek-Sands from the United States and Jamie Murray from the United Kingdom bagged the mixed doubles title. They faced off against Poland's Alicja Rosolska and Croatia's Nikola Mektić in a thrilling final.

After dropping the first set 2-6, Mattek-Sands and Murray bounced back to take the second set 6-3. The match was ultimately decided in a tense match tiebreak, where the American-British pair edged out their opponents with an [11-9] score, securing their victory.

The following year, 2019, saw a repeat victory for Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jamie Murray, who successfully defended their title. This time, they went up against Chan Hao-ching from Chinese Taipei and Michael Venus from New Zealand.

Demonstrating their dominance, Mattek-Sands and Murray cruised to a straight-sets victory, winning 6-2, 6-3, and solidifying their status as a formidable team in mixed doubles.

After a break in 2020 due to the pandemic, the competition returned in 2021 with Desirae Krawczyk from the United States and Joe Salisbury from the United Kingdom emerging as the champions.

They faced a tough challenge from Mexico's Giuliana Olmos and El Salvador's Marcelo Arévalo in the final. However, Krawczyk and Salisbury played with great precision, securing the title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory, marking another successful year for the American-British partnership in the mixed doubles event.

In 2022, the championship shifted Down Under as the Australian pair of Storm Sanders and John Peers claimed the mixed doubles title. They overcame a strong challenge from Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens and France's Édouard Roger-Vasselin in a tightly contested final.

After losing the first set 4-6, Sanders and Peers rallied to take the second set 6-4 and then dominated the match tiebreak, winning [10-7] to lift the trophy.

The 2023 edition of the US Open mixed doubles event introduced a new set of champions: Kazakhstan's Anna Danilina and Finland's Harri Heliövaara.

In the final, they faced the all-American team of Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek. Danilina and Heliövaara displayed impressive form, taking the match 6-3, 6-4, and adding their names to the list of US Open mixed doubles champions.

These past five years have highlighted the global nature of tennis, with champions hailing from different parts of the world. Each pair, through their unique strategies and chemistry, has left an indelible mark on the US Open, contributing to the rich history of the mixed doubles event.
