Vaishnavi Adkar Hits Career High Record; Leads Indian Women’s Tennis Rankings

Vaishnavi Adkar has become India’s No. 1 women’s singles player as of April 2026, after breaking into the Top 400. The Pune player, now with strong form on tour, also reached the ITF W100 Bengaluru final, the best Indian women’s singles result in 17 years.

Adkar began tennis in Pune at age seven and soon led her age group. She became India’s No. 1 in the U-14 category and reached a career-high ITF junior ranking of 115. That junior promise has now shifted into consistent results on the professional circuit.

Vaishnavi Adkar India No 1 Rise

These results pushed Adkar from outside the top 600 to the Top 400. She has also debuted this week for India at the Billie Jean King Cup in Delhi. The strong run underlines steady progress at the international level and growing belief on the circuit.

High-performance base and support team in Bengaluru

Adkar now trains at the Rohan Bopanna Tennis Academy in Bengaluru. The academy offers a structured high-performance system, which has helped her consistency and confidence. Balachandran Manikath, Director of Tennis at RBTA, said her rise reflects the impact of careful planning and the right backing.

“Vaishnavi’s rise is a result of disciplined work and strong backing. The travel team model has improved planning, training, and recovery, showing what Indian players can achieve with the right structure.” Adkar agreed, crediting a full support team, including a dedicated coach and physio.

“Becoming India No. 1 and breaking into the Top 400 is very special for me, but it’s also a reflection of the team around me,” she said. “I’m grateful to everyone for believing in me and supporting my journey.” She has also been exclusively signed by Cornerstone Meraki Endeavour, marking another key step.
