Venus claims fourth Wimbledon crown

London, July 7: Venus Williams claimed her fourth Wimbledon crown today beating France's Marion Bartoli 6-4 6-1 in the final. The 27-year-old American was in command from the outset against the unheralded 18th seed, firing down hefty serves and placing pinpoint groundstrokes. She won the first set with an aggressive backhand volley on Bartoli's serve and took the second after steaming through the Frenchwoman's defences, with a huge, unreturnable serve.

Williams, who won the title in 2000, 2001 and 2005, waved to her family in the stands after claiming her victory and smiled broadly on being presented with the winner's plate.
