Venus Williams feels winning Wimbledon is special

By Staff

London, June 23 : American tennis star Venus Williams always has something special that she cuddles up to -- It is her replica plate of the Rosewater Dish that she receives as Wimbledon champion.

Williams, 28, is the defending champion, and believes that once you have won it, nothing in the world can take it away.

"When you have won the Championships it is something that can never be taken away from you," The Daily Express quoted her, as saying.

"It will always be yours, and you can hug the plate at night if it gets chilly," she adds.

"I do allow myself to think about winning again. But I know I have got to work for it, and I'm willing to pay the price. Winning for a fifth time would be better than winning it for the first time," she said.

Williams is clear favourite to win again because she has such an aggressive grass court game. She could meet little sister Serena in the final.

Venus says that she has total respect for Serena as a player, because "she is somebody who can produce any shot at any time, from anywhere."

Venus' devastating serve, the hardest on the women's tour, makes her such a threat even though she is only seventh seed.

She said: "I'm always excited about coming back to Wimbledon. It's nice to have all the memories, and for me they just flow into this year.

"It's the ultimate honour in tennis," she said about kickstarting the women's leg of the championship.

Venus is meeting Britisher Naomi Cavaday today.

"Wimbledon is the ultimate place to play your best tennis. The most wonderful to win. I just love it and it's good for my game," she concluded.
