Vishal Uppal Praises Yuki Bhambri's Rise In Indian Tennis

Indian tennis witnessed a significant shift as Yuki Bhambri dethroned Rohan Bopanna to become the country's top-ranked doubles player after a stellar performance at the Miami Open 2025.

The 32-year-old, alongside his Portuguese partner Nuno Borges, secured a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 victory over Bopanna and Croatia's Ivan Dodig in the round of 32.

Vishal Uppal Praises Yuki Bhambri s Rise In Indian Tennis

Reflecting on Bhambri's achievement, former Indian tennis player Vishal Uppal lauded his dedication and perseverance. "For Yuki, this is a great milestone. He's been working hard, and this is something he must have aspired to-becoming India's No. 1. But he knows the journey doesn't end here. There are many more goals to chase," Uppal said.

Bhambri, who has been in remarkable form, also clinched his maiden ATP 500 title earlier this month at the Dubai Tennis Championships. His decision to transition from singles to doubles in 2023 is now paying dividends. "His game has been evolving, and his results have become increasingly consistent," The current captain of Indian team for the Billie Jean King Cup Vishal Uppal noted. "That consistency has propelled him up the rankings."

With Bopanna holding the No. 1 spot in Indian doubles since 2019, Bhambri's rise marks a new era. "The doubles circuit in India is thriving. With multiple players in the top 100, the momentum is strong, and it's great for Indian tennis." the former Indian doubles player added.

When asked if Bhambri is in his peak form, Uppal was confident. "He and Borges took down a formidable duo in Bopanna and Dodig in a tight match. Rankings fluctuate, but Yuki deserves all the credit for this accomplishment."

Bhambri and Borges will now face the sixth-seeded duo of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool in the Miami Open quarterfinals, as Yuki continues to carve out his legacy in Indian doubles tennis.
