London, Mar 8: So the World's most prestigious tennis tournament, the Wimbledon is going to be more exciting as the tournament organisers have decided the matches will be broadcast in 3D mode.

Chief Executive of the All England Club, Ian Ritchie, announced on Mar 7 that fans across the world can watch Wimbledon 2011 in 3D vision at homes and in cinemas.

In an interview to Reuters, Ritchie was quoted as saying, "Starting way back, the first ever transmission in colour the BBC put out was from Wimbledon so we were innovators then..Now there is an opportunity to expand into 3D broadcasts and it's very exciting."

"But as far as we are concerned it's that classic combination of tradition and innovation.Technically we like to be at the forefront of things and 3D is going to be a very interesting feature, not just for broadcasters but for cinemagoers around the world too", quoted Reuters.

Wimbledon 2011's men's singles semi-finals and the men's and women's semi-final will be recorded in 3D and aired to nearly 600 suitable cinemas around the world. In partnership with Sony and the official broadcaster BBC, the event will also be available to various national broadcasters.

During his tenure, Ritchie has brought in a plethora of changes to the Wimbledon which is considered as the most traditional and prestigious tennis championship. Ritchie has managed to usher in new changes to Wimbledon which was notable for its strict white clothing rules for players.

Now with Wimbledon employing the latest technology, others may soon follow suit and it can't get any better for fans who missed out on being there at the Wimbledon.
