Tommy moved from Western Australia to the Gold Coast, Queensland, to train in surf lifesaving. His transition to Para swimming was swift and spontaneous, influenced by his enjoyment of the swim leg. The delay of the 2020 Paralympic Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic provided him with the necessary time to make this transition.

Achievements and Challenges

At the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Tommy won a bronze medal in the men's S10 400m freestyle. However, his journey has not been without challenges. He was hospitalised for a week in Japan due to acute pancreatitis after competing at the Tokyo Games. In August 2022, he underwent surgery in Australia for the same issue.

Injuries and Recovery

Tommy's athletic career has seen its share of injuries. Besides his pancreatitis issues, he fractured his jaw in November 2020 while training in surf lifesaving. Despite these setbacks, he remains committed to his sport and continues to train under coach Ashley Callus at Somerset Swim Club on the Gold Coast.
