In early 2019, Tommy tore a muscle in his leg. Despite this setback, he represented Luxembourg as its sole athlete at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. After announcing his retirement post-Tokyo, he made a comeback in 2024. He achieved the qualifying standard for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris during his first competition since his return.
Tommy is multilingual, speaking English, French, German, and Luxembourgish. He enjoys geocaching as a hobby. He has two sons named Max and Pol. His hero is British ski jumper Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards. His personal philosophy is to "Never give up."
Outside of athletics, Tommy works at the National Audiovisual Centre in Dudelange, Luxembourg. He has also undertaken an apprenticeship to become a baker. His educational background includes culinary studies.
Tommy played football at FC Jeunesse Useldange but was never allowed to play an official match due to restrictions on using his prosthesis. Watching the 2012 Paralympic Games inspired him to switch to athletics when he realised it was difficult to find a football team for players with similar disabilities.
Tommy was nominated for the Luxembourg Sportsperson of the Year award multiple times between 2014 and 2018. In 2015, he was named Male Athlete of the Year by Cercle Athletique Dudelange club. He also had the honour of being one of Luxembourg's flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
In 2024, Tommy started training under coach David Storl from Germany. With renewed enthusiasm for Para athletics, he aims to make a significant impact at future events.
Tommy's journey from trying various sports to becoming a celebrated athlete is inspiring. His dedication and resilience continue to motivate many within and beyond Luxembourg.
