Vanessa Low Biography

V Low began her Para athletics career in 2009 at the Schleswig-Holstein Regional Performance Centre in Ratzeburg, Germany. She was inspired by US Para athlete Cameron Clapp and wanted to continue her involvement in sport after an accident. She had practised ballet dancing for eight years before taking up athletics.

Challenges and Injuries

Throughout her career, V Low has faced numerous injuries. In 2021, she sustained a concussion that affected her performance at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. She also suffered a lower back injury in 2019 and a rib fracture in 2018. Despite these setbacks, she continued to compete at the highest level.

Switch to Australia

In February 2019, V Low made the tough decision to represent Australia. She cherished her roots in Germany but found a new home in Australia. Her transition was marked by significant achievements, including winning the Amy Winters Award for Female Para Athlete of the Year at the 2022 Athletics Australia Awards.

Family and Coaching

V Low's husband, Scott Reardon, has been both her coach and inspiration since December 2021. Their shared experiences have strengthened their bond, both on and off the track. The couple welcomed their son Matteo in June 2022, seamlessly integrating him into their athletic lifestyle.

After retiring from competitive Para athletics post-2012 Paralympic Games in London, V Low rediscovered her passion for the sport during a visit to German Paralympian Katrin Green in the USA. She trained there until mid-2016 before returning to Germany due to visa issues.
