William Bayley Biography

Bayley made his debut for Great Britain in Lasko, Slovenia, in 2006. Throughout his career, he faced several injuries. In October 2019, he sustained an ACL injury during rehearsals for 'Strictly Come Dancing'. He had surgery in January 2020. In November 2017, he underwent surgery for keratoconus, an eye disorder.

Achievements and Recognition

Bayley has received numerous accolades. He was named the 2023 Male Para Player of the Year by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). In 2022, he won the Sports Personality of the Year at the Sussex Sports Awards. He was honoured with an MBE in the 2017 New Year Honours list.

In 2016, Bayley received the Bill McGowran Trophy for excellence in Para sport from the Sports Journalists' Association. He was also voted European Players' Player of the Year in 2011. His most memorable achievement is winning gold in men's class seven singles at the 2022 World Championships in Granada, Spain.

Personal Life and Interests

Bayley supports Arsenal football club and speaks English fluently. He studied at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College in Bristol. He has two daughters, Bella and Grace. His hero is Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal.

Bayley has coached youth players at Brighton Table Tennis Club. He also serves as an ambassador for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity in London. He enjoys visiting children and participating in fundraising activities whenever his training schedule allows.
