The narrative is no longer about a 100gm weight loss inability, it's about how jumping into politics means there will be muck-racking and mud-slinging. On Saturday, all of a sudden, the wrestling fraternity has swung into action.
What one is getting to see on television and digital platforms, social media included, is how a former President of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Singh, is now stoking the fire.

A man accused of "harassment charges" which is being probed by a court of law has not minced words. He has slammed two grapplers, after Vinesh Phogat, got a ticket to contest the Haryana Assembly elections from the Congress and Bajrang Punia.
Right or wrong, or is this optics, the world is watching. Yes, Brij Bhushan was asked by a prominent news agency for his comments and he said the whole thing to malign him is a 'Congress agenda.' As someone who was denied a ticket to contest the General Elections this summer by the BJP, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has kept quiet for a long time.
But then, when was asked questions on Saturday, he has not hesitated in taking pot-shots at the two wrestlers from Haryana who will now be spoken of as 'netas' and not athletes.
Vinesh kept quiet on her return from Paris but what had caught everyone's eyes is the presence of Deepender Hooda from the Congress at the IG airport in New Delhi. He was part of the large convoy which went right up to Vinesh's village in Haryana and she received a grand welcome.
For many, Vinesh is still a champion who made it to the final at the Paris 2024 Olympics before she was disqualified. Brij Bhushan has spoken enough on how it was wrong to allow Vinesh to compete in trials in two weight sections earlier this year. It is against the rules and why people kept quiet about it, UWW included, is a mystery.
If all that was history, Brij Bhushan has pointed it out and how Vinesh "had held up the trials as well for five hours." Here begins the drama, a former president of the wrestling federation who will speak now. It is no longer about a man defending himself in a court of law but a BJP politician who will say even more.
And if you think Brij Bhushan is throwing the gauntlet by saying he will go and campaign in Haryana if the party asks him, he is not afraid at all. He knows, there will be a lot of people ready to slam him, and, promptly, it has begun from Bajrang Punia.
Bajrang has talked of the 'BJP IT cell in action' and slammed Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The language he has used is not in sync with the best, but this is just the beginning. There is no way Brij Bhushan is going to keep quiet and Bajrang is entitled to his own views as well.
Bajrang has nothing to lose, really, as he has not got a ticket to contest the polls. Will all these taunts and barbs work in favour of Vinesh the 'neta' or vice versa, time will tell. Yes, the story is no longer about weight loss, disqualification from the Paris Olympics etc. It's a poll war, BJP vs Congress. No holds barred!
