Antim Panghal's journey has always been about resilience. The World Championships medallist recently secured her spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championships after dominating the 53 kg freestyle trials in New Delhi.
The Asian Wrestling Championships is set to take place in Amman, Jordan, later this month. Despite facing only two bouts, Antim knew complacency wasn't an option. "Both my bouts went well, and my opponents were good too," she shared to myKhel. "But I came in with the mindset that I had to work harder than before."

Her return to the Asian Championships marks a comeback of sorts. Antim skipped the previous edition (2024) due to injury but now looks determined to improve on her 2023 silver. In April 2023, Antim won a silver medal at the Asian Championships in Astana, where her impressive run was halted in the final by Japan's Akari Fujinami, a true modern-day wrestling phenom. "In 2023, I won silver, but this time I'll try to win gold," she declared with quiet determination.
The Paris Olympics, however, remains a tough memory. Entering as one of India's medal hopes, Antim struggled with weight issues and exited in the first round. The heartbreak deepened when she was sent home from the Games village. Yet, Antim refuses to dwell on it.
"I was injured before the Olympics, but I did proper rehab and gradually returned to the mat," she recalled. "I don't think too much about the Paris Olympics - it's the biggest competition for us, but my performance wasn't good. But that's okay, I'll do better in the future."
With her sights now set firmly on gold in Amman and a bigger goal at the World Championships, Antim Panghal's story is one of unwavering focus - a wrestler determined to turn setbacks into stepping stones.
