Loganathan Dhanush has made history by securing a bronze medal in the 55 kg weight category at the 2024 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships, thus becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the competition.
This prestigious is taking place in Leon, Spain, from 17 to 28 September 2024. Dhanush's achievement marks the first time an Indian male athlete has won a medal at this championship.

In the fiercely contested 55 kg category, K. Duong from Vietnam clinched the gold with a total lift of 253 kg. Japan's Tomari Kotaro followed closely, earning silver with a total of 247 kg. Loganathan Dhanush secured bronze with a total lift of 231 kg, which included another bronze in the snatch event for lifting 107 kg.
The Indian Weightlifting Federation's President, Shri Sahdev Yadav, expressed his pride and congratulated Dhanush on his remarkable performance on the world stage. He also acknowledged Shri Vijay Sharma, the national coach and Dronacharya Awardee, for his pivotal role in guiding Dhanush to this podium finish.
In addition to Dhanush's success, Payal represented India in the women's competition. Competing in the 45 kg weight category, she finished sixth with a total lift of 150 kg. Her performance added to India's presence at this international event.
India has sent a team of nine athletes to compete in various categories at these championships.
