By MyKhel Staff

Canadian Olympic Gold medalist Erica Wiebe is set to inspire the next generation of Indian wrestlers during her visit to the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Vijayanagar this month. Wiebe will headline the second edition of the IIS Excellence Accelerator.

It is a pioneering initiative aimed at equipping young athletes with world-class expertise. The highlight of her visit will be a masterclass at the IIS UWW International Women's Wrestling Camp, where female wrestlers from over eight countries are participating.

This event follows the success of the inaugural edition, led by Georgian Judo legend Lasha Shavdatuashvili. Wiebe's illustrious career includes an undefeated 2014 season, where she clinched 36 consecutive victories.

Commonwealth Games gold in 2014 and 2018, and Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Games. Her connection to Indian wrestling runs deep, having captained the Mumbai Maharathi in the inaugural Indian Pro Wrestling League.

"We are thrilled to welcome Erica to IIS. Her journey exemplifies the commitment and resilience required to become an Olympic champion. This masterclass will give our young athletes firsthand exposure to her techniques and insights," said Manisha Malhotra, President of IIS.

Apart from sharing her expertise in wrestling, Wiebe will also provide valuable lessons on life after sports. "Erica is not just a sporting legend but also a role model, having earned an MBA and worked with the Canadian Olympic Committee.

This experience will help our athletes understand how they can contribute to sports beyond their competitive careers," added Malhotra. The IIS Excellence Accelerator aims to foster cross-cultural learning and provide Indian athletes with opportunities to interact with the world's best.

Supported by IndusInd Bank, the program aligns with IIS' vision of nurturing India's next generation of champions. Wiebe's visit marks a milestone for the Indian wrestling community and reinforces IIS' commitment to advancing female wrestling. The camp is not just an avenue for technical learning but also a platform to inspire holistic growth among athletes.
