Nisha Dahiya has secured India's fifth Paris Olympic quota in women's wrestling by defeating Romania's Alexandra Anghel in the 68kg semifinals at the World Olympic Qualifiers in Istanbul.
With this victory, Nisha became the fifth Indian woman wrestler to qualify for the Paris Olympics, marking a historic moment for Indian wrestling. This achievement comes after all six Greco-Roman wrestlers had disappointing performances the day before.

In a thrilling match against Anghel, Nisha dominated from the start, building an impressive 8-0 lead in the first period with a series of attacking moves. Despite Anghel's comeback attempts in the second period, Nisha's solid defense ensured her victory, securing another Olympic quota for India.
This will be the first time that India will have five women wrestlers competing in the Olympics, highlighting the growing prowess of Indian women in wrestling. Nisha's journey to securing the Olympic quota included victories over Alina Shauchuk and Adela Hanzlickova, showcasing her skill and determination on the mat.
While Nisha's achievement shines bright, Mansi (62kg) faced a tough opponent in Veranika Ivanova and will now look to secure a place in the bronze-medal round through the repechage route. Meanwhile, four Indian women wrestlers had already secured Paris berths earlier, further solidifying India's presence in women's wrestling on the global stage.
As Indian men's freestyle grapplers prepare to compete, they aim to make up for the disappointing performances of their Greco-Roman counterparts and showcase India's strength in wrestling across all categories. With Nisha's historic qualification and the determination of Indian wrestlers, the stage is set for an exciting Olympic campaign in Paris.
