The Indian wrestler lost to Japan's Rei Higuchi, a formidable opponent with a silver medal from the Rio 2016 Olympics and a recent World Championships silver, by technical superiority. with a score of 10-0 in under three minutes.

He will now face Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz in the semifinal tomorrow (August 9) after 9:45 PM IST, when the medal round matches begin. The semifinal bout, which many anticipated to be a close contest, ended in a disappointing defeat for Sehrawat, who lost by technical superiority with a score of 10-0 in under three minutes.
The match began with Higuchi making a powerful start, executing two takedowns and a single-leg takedown within the first minute, leaving Sehrawat trailing 6-0. Despite his best efforts, the Indian wrestler was unable to recover from the early onslaught, and the bout concluded swiftly, ending Sehrawat's hopes for a gold medal.
