U-17 World Wrestling Championships: India Names Strong Squad For Baku 2026, Women’s Team Eyes Third Consecutive Title
The Wrestling Federation of India on June 15, 2026 named the full Indian squad for the U-17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 27 to August 2, 2026. The team was finalised after national selection trials in Sonipat and Lucknow across all three styles.
India will go to Baku with strong recent form in junior wrestling. The women’s team won the overall title in 2024 in Amman with 185 points, then defended it in Athens last year. India finished with nine medals across disciplines in 2025.

WFI President Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh said the trials showed the depth of the junior system. He said the process was fair and competitive, and added that the squad is ready to deliver strong results and bring glory to India in Baku.
Women’s Wrestling squad
Haryana led the women’s trials, winning six of the ten weight classes. Diksha took 43kg and Garima won 73kg. Delhi earned places through Kamna Babal at 49kg and Akshara at 53kg. Maharashtra’s Rohini Khanu Devba and Rajasthan’s Sandhya also qualified.

Men’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman
In men’s freestyle, Haryana’s Satinder at 60kg and Arush Rana at 110kg won their classes. Uttar Pradesh took two spots through Aaryan at 48kg and Deepanshu Khokhar at 80kg, while athletes from Maharashtra, Delhi and SSCB won one class each.
Greco-Roman was led by Maharashtra, which won five weight classes, including Sachin Shirole at 45kg and Rajvardhan Patil at 92kg. Uttar Pradesh added two spots, while Delhi, Punjab and Haryana took one each to complete the squad.

India’s women wrestlers won the team title in Amman in 2024 with five golds, one silver and two bronzes. They defended the crown in Athens last year. The 2026 squad will now aim for a third straight title in Baku.
