Indian wrestling was handed a severe blow months before the Paris Olympics 2024 as two-time Asian Champion Divya Kakran failed a dope test and is eligible for a four-year suspension, reported Hindi daily Amar Ujala.
The 26-year-old wrestler, who has won back-to-back Commonwealth Games bronze medals, is temporarily suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after prohibited substances were found in her sample.

The report further added that the prohibited steroid methyl testosterone and its metabolites were found in Divya Kakran's urine sample. The positive sample was collected from her last year on December 15 from her residence in Muzaffarnagar (UP) in an out-of-competition dope test. The sample was tested at New Delhi-based National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).
Following a positive test at NDTL, NADA put a temporary suspension on January 10, which also forced the 2020 Arjuna Awardee to miss the National Wrestling Championships in Jaipur earlier this month. Amar Ujala further reported that Divya Kakran has also got her Sample B tested.
Divya Kakran was among the medal hopes for India at the Paris Olympics 2024 with her spate of medals at the international level in the women's freestyle 68kg category. The wrestler won four senior Asian Championships medal -- including two back-to-back gold medals (2020-21) and a silver (2017) and bronze (2019). She also bagged an Asian Games bronze medal in 2018 Jakarta Palembang. Her last major medal was the bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games following an injury layoff.
She also bagged the 2018 Asian Junior Championships silver medal in the 68kg category and also won the Commonwealth Championships gold medal in 2017 Johannesburg. Divya Kakran got married in 2022 to a professional bodybuilder Sachin Pratap Singh.
