Wrestlers' Protest: Neeraj Chopra asks for better treatment of wrestlers after being dragged by Delhi Police

Neeraj Chopra took to Twitter to express sorrow on the way the wrestlers were treated ahead of the scheduled Mahila Mahapanchayat as the reigning Olympic Champion urged for better treatment of the wrestlers after Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and other protestors were dragged and detained by the Delhi Police in New Delhi on Sunday.

The Mahila Mahapanchayat couldn't go ahead in front of the new Parliament day on its inauguration day by PM Narendra Modi as all the leaders, who were backing the Wrestlers Protest, were either detained by the police or stopped from entering Delhi amid tight security arrangements.

Their heavy measures also saw wrestlers being dragged through the protest site at Jantar Mantar and pushed into buses before being taken to separate police stations as striking videos and images from the incident made rounds on social media.

Neeraj Chopra retweeted one of the posts made through Sakshi Malik's Twitter account stating that it was sad how wrestlers were treated and there's a better way to deal with this.

Interestingly, the incident happened on a day when another major sporting event IPL 2023 final is taking place in Ahmedabad but key cricket figures kept mum on the incident happening in the national capital. So far only Kapil Dev has been among prominent names who spoke on the matter.

The Mahila Mahapanchayat was called by the Khap last week after their demand for the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was not met. The incumbent BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India president is facing charges of sexual harassment charges made by female wrestlers.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was reportedly present at the new Parliament as well on its inauguration day in the capacity of Kaisergunj's Minister of Parliament. His presence was highlighted by several protesting wrestlers and their supporters in their multiple posts, who claimed this was a 'murder of democracy' as athletes were dragged to the police stations while Singh is roaming free.
