Samoa Joe won the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at the Worlds End pay-per-view in late December and now he's set for the first title match defense set for next week against a very interesting opponent.
This upcoming match was set up after AEW President Tony Khan recently had a Twitter altercation with Jinder Mahal after the latter secured a World Heavyweight Title Match opportunity against Seth Rollin for next week's Raw.

Tony Khan noted that Mahal doesn't deserve a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as he hadn't won a match in around a year. Jinder fired back by saying AEW giving opportunities to the emerging star power Hook.
Now, Tony Khan has the biggest answer he could offer, as Hook vs. Samoa Joe for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship was booked for the January 17 Dynamite episode soon after the Homecoming episode ended from Daily's Place.
On the actual TV episode, Swerve Strickland and Adam "Hangman" Page confronted Samoa Joe for getting a World Title shot by any means necessary. FTW Champion Hook also came out to face Joe to indicate at the title match.
In another big news from Dynamite, the next superpower in the AEW Women's Division, Deonna Purrazzo has been booked to compete in her first-ever match as an AEW talent during this week's episode of Collision.
Deonna Purrazzo will compete against Red Velvet, this Saturday night on Collision, a match set up in a backstage airing during Dynamite. Before wrapping up the segment, Purrazzo warned to take away her stirring arm with her lethal submission hold.
As seen on the January 3 episode of Dynamite, Mariah May defeated Queen Aminata in her debut match in the All Elite Wrestling promotion. After the match, she cut a promo on winning the bout and her ally, AEW Women's Champion Toni Storm.
It was then that Deonna "The Virtuosa" Purrazzo made her debut on AEW Dynamite and declared herself to be an All Elite. She also sent a warning to Storm before sending Mariah for a retreat with a big kick on the head.
