One of the most talented professional wrestlers, Swerve Strickland can call himself a champion now that he has clinched the AEW World Heavyweight Title after he defeated Samoa Joe in the main event of the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view.
The final match at Dynasty witnessed Strickland hitting a second Swerve Stomp off the top rope on Joe to clinch the pin-fall win and capture the prime title of All Elite Wrestling promotion and thereby live up to the expectations.

As noted by the commentary team, Strickland becomes AEW's first African-American World Champion, and their 11th overall World Champion, and eighth unique World Champion. He previously won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship alongside world titles in MLW, EVOLVE, and CZW.
After leaving the WWE, Swerve quickly debuted in AEW in 2022 and picked up the tag team gold alongside Keith Lee. Soon he went on to form Mogul Embassies to adopt a villainous persona after turning on Lee.
A month ago, Swerve came close to winning the AEW world title at Revolution in a three-way match against Joe and Hangman, but Joe was able to choke out Page via the coquina clutch and escape with the title.
In more news from AEW Dynasty 2024, Young Bucks defeated FTR in a Ladder Match to win the vacant AEW World Tag Team Championships. Dax Harwood of FTR was this close to unhooking the titles by standing on top of the ladder.
But someone in a mask interfered and pushed Dax off the ladder. Security caught that persona and he was revealed to be "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, who made his first appearance on AEW TV since his backstage fight with CM Punk at All In 2023.
The AEW tag team titles were vacated by Darby Allin & Sting following Sting's retirement at the Revolution PPV in early March. A tournament began in AEW where FTR and The Young Bucks won their respective matches to get to the final match at Dynasty.
