AEW Dynasty 2024: Two Championship Matches confirmed for April PPV
The AEW World Heavyweight Championship Match is set for the AEW Dynasty 2024 pay-per-view event following this week's episode of Dynamite which would continue the ongoing feud between Samoa Joe and Swerve Strickland.
After defeating Konosuke Takeshita in the main event of this week's episode of AEW Dynamite, Swerve Strickland emerged as the number-one contender to the AEW World Heavyweight Championship and thereby secured his spot at AEW Dynasty.

This match was fast-paced with the fans firmly behind a babyface Swerve Strickland's corner. The finish of this match saw multiple counterattacks between both competitors until Swerve found a solid opening.
The former WWE NXT star connected with the Swerve Stomp and the Big Pressure on Takeshita to earn the pin-fall win much to the disappointment and anger of the champion, Samoa Joe who came out right after the match.
Joe previously managed to retain the title in a triple threat match against Strickland and "Hangman" Adam Page at Revolution, but Strickland wasn't the one to get pinned. Rather, Page tapped out in Joe's Coquina Clutch submission.
On AEW Dynamite, a number-one contender's match also went down featuring Kris Statlander, Skye Blue, Anna Jay, and Willow Nightingale with the CEO Mercedes Mone observing the competition from the commentary desk.
The closing moments of the bout saw Willow Nightingale slamming Anna Jay to claim the pinfall and book herself for the TBS Title Match against the champion Julia Hart. Her celebrations were cut short after Hart attacked her from behind.
Scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 21, at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri, AEW Dynasty will be the inaugural event of its kind for All Elite Wrestling promotion. At present, the match card for the PPV goes as follows:
- Samoa Joe (c) vs. Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship
