In the main event of NJPW Windy City Riot, Jon Moxley defeated Tetsuya Naito to claim the IWGP World Heavyweight Title and now it appears that the rematch between these two will be happening at AEW's Forbidden Door annual show.
Naito had held the title since January 2024 after he captured it at Wrestle Kingdom 18 by defeating Sanada. But then he dropped the belt to Jon Moxley who's been no stranger to making appearances in NJPW since being an All-Elite in 2019.

He was present during Wrestle Kingdom 18 earlier this year and then actively participated in the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at Windy City Riot to pick up the big win and become the new champion.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned that discussions are ongoing with the AEW creative regarding a potential Jon Moxley IWGP Heavyweight Title defense against Tetsuya Naito at the Forbidden Door event.
Plans are also there for AEW and CMLL to work together in this particular show as Meltzer has the following to offer regarding the PPV, "There was some talk of Tetsuya Naito at Forbidden Door challenging Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight title."
Meanwhile, an IWGP World title eliminator match has been added to the AEW Double or Nothing lineup. As stated by Tony Khan on social media, Jon Moxley will be in action at the PPV in a match against Konosuke Takeshita.
If Takeshita manages to pick up a win, he will receive a future IWGP World title shot at a later date. The next IWGP World title defense for Moxley is currently set for NJPW Dominion on Sunday, June 9 against EVIL.
The 2024 Forbidden Door will be a joint venture of All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling for the third straight year where wrestlers from both promotions will be actively participating.
As per the confirmations from AEW, the 3rd edition of Forbidden Door will take place on Sunday, June 30 at the UBS Arena at Belmont Park in New York. More details regarding the show are yet to be released.
