AEW Revolution 2024: Two World Champions retain titles at annual PPV

AEW World Heavyweight Champion went through an acid test at All Elite Wrestling's first pay-per-view event of this year in AEW Revolution 2024, last night and he became successful in retaining the title against not one but two opponents.

In the 8th overall match of the AEW Revolution card, Samoa Joe defeated "Hangman" Adam Page and Swerve Strickland in a Triple Threat Match to retain the AEW World Championship at the historic Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina.

All three men brought unique style and offense throughout the bout and Strickland was inching closer to having the match won a revised version of the Buckshot Lariat followed by the JML Driver to Adam Page.

However, Joe took Strickland out of his pinning position with a suplex which was followed up by the Coquina Clutch submission which forced Page to tap out. The tap-out was controversial as some believe that Page didn't tap out legitimately.

This match at Revolution was set up after a decisive winner was not determined a few weeks ago on AEW Dynamite in a contender's matchup between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page. The no-result led Tony Khan to announce a three-way.

Also, Page was presumed to be injured in the weeks leading up to the pay-per-view. Then last week, it turned out to be a ruse as Page attacked Swerve and he further ensured that the latter doesn't win the title at Revolution.

In another big title match at the PPV event, Toni Storm (c) defeated Deonna Purrazzo to retain the AEW Women's World Championship. For some moments, Purrazzo had Storm locked in her Venus De Milo finisher.

When Storm was tapping out, her butler Luther distracted the referee from seeing that. Purrazzo was eventually forced to go to tackle the other distraction at ringside in Mariah May. Ultimately, Storm capitalized with a Storm Zero to retain her title.

For the time being, Storm has managed to be on top of the AEW women's division, but Purrazzo should be coming for retribution. Also, the anticipated addition of Mercedes Mone is about to happen within two weeks to amp things up.
