AEW Star Mercedes Mone set for title defense at NJPW Capital Collision

Being a dual champion across two different promotions, namely AEW and NJPW, top AEW wrestler Mercedes Mone will be seen performing at the next big show to be presented by the Japanese wrestling promotion.

As announced in the latest, the reigning NJPW Strong Women's Champion Mercedes Mone will be heading to Washington, DC as she has officially been added to the lineup for their Capital Collision event set from the Entertainment & Sports Arena for Friday, August 30.

It's yet to be announced who Mone's opponent will be. Plus, It was also not specified whether the NJPW Strong Women's Title would be defended on that night. Mone is also holding the TBS Women's Championship which she'll defend at All In.

The coming match at Capital Collision will mark the female wrestler's return under the NJPW banner since the May 2023 NJPW Strong Resurgence event where she suffered an injury in a match against Willow Nightingale.

Contested for the inaugural NXT Strong Women's Title, Mercedes Mone was originally slated to win but that injury forced her to miss a year of in-ring action. Moving on, she resurfaced on TV by joining AEW in the Big Business edition in March.

Then in her second PPV match for the promotion, the former WWE Star won the NJPW Strong Women's Championship at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 30 by defeating Stephanie Vaquer, someone who has recently signed up with the WWE.

On that same night, she shared a confrontation with the returning AEW star Dr. Britt Baker to commence a feud between the two that will culminate in the dream match at All In with the TBS Title hanging in the balance.

For the time being, Mone has all the advantages by her side with ex-NWA Star Kamille joining her as an ally in AEW. Time will tell if she will head on to Capital Collision, still the dual champion.
