AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024: Title Match and new Ladder Match participant set

After initially announced for a championship defense, Mercedes Mone is indeed headed into AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door as still the reigning TBS Champion after defeating her PPV opponent's tag team partner on AEW Dynamite.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Mone will be defending her title against Stephanie Vaquer of CMLL at Forbidden Door, later this month. Then last week, she was further booked in another title defense against Vaquer’s tag partner Zeuxis on Dynamite.

Mone eventually defeated Zeuxis, who is one-half of the CMLL World Women's Tag Team Champions alongside Vaquer. She recuperated from a Lung Blower and hit the Mone Maker finisher in the middle of the ring to pick up the pin-fall win.

With that, the TBS Title Match between Mercedes Mone and Stephanie Vaquer is again set for Forbidden Door where the latter’s NJPW STRONG Women's Championship will also be on the line in a Title vs. Title encounter.

The stipulation of this match says the winner of the upcoming bout will leave the event as a dual champion. As such, the NJPW STRONG Women's Championship was reportedly created for Mone and she’s finally close to capturing the title.

Also at Forbidden Door, a Ladder Match for the vacant TNT Championship will go down and Jack Perry is the latest entrant in that match after he defeated Dustin Rhodes with a running knee on AEW Dynamite.

The former champion Adam Copeland injured his leg during a barbed wire steel cage match at Double or Nothing against Malakai Black and subsequently vacated the title. The Elite wanted to put the belt on Perry, the only person in The Elite without a title.

Instead, a ladder match was announced by the new interim EVP, Christopher Daniels at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 pay-per-view that takes place Sunday, June 30 at the UBS Arena on Long Island in New York. The updated match card goes as follows,

– AEW World Heavyweight Championship: Swerver Strickland (c) vs. AEW International Champion Will Ospreay

– IWGP Heavyweight Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Tetsuya Naito

– AEW Women’s World Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs. Mina Shirakawa

– AEW TBS Championship: Mercedes Mone (c) vs. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer

– Ladder match for the vacant AEW TNT Championship: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Jack Perry vs. TBD

– Orange Cassidy vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (TBA)

– NJPW World TV Championship: Jeff Cobb (c) vs. TBA
