AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024: Two title matches announced for June PPV

The third annual AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is set for next month in the main event of which Will Ospreay will challenge for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship currently held by Swerve Strickland.

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Ospreay won a Casino Gauntlet to earn the right to face Strickland for the World title at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door defeating nine other names from both AEW and NJPW.

En route to this massive win, Ospreay outlasted Jay White, PAC, Mistico, Shota Umino, Claudio Castagnoli, Lio Rush, Orange Cassidy, and Hechicero, Ospreay to put himself in line for a world title shot at Swerve’s title which the champion retained at Double or Nothing by defeating Christian Cage.

Once the Gauntlet was over match, Strickland came to the ring for a staredown with Ospreay who also is the current AEW International Champion after defeating Roderick Strong at Double or Nothing, this past Sunday night.

While Swerve vs. Ospreay is the first official match announced for Forbidden Door, a second match has also been announced for the show for the TNT Championship and it will be a ladder match for the vacant title.

On Dynamite, The Young Bucks alongside The Elite appeared and announced the TNT Title to be vacant due to Adam Copeland’s broken tibia. Christopher Daniels appeared and announced that Tony Khan had appointed him as an interim executive vice president.

Daniels further announced that a series of qualifying matches will take place on AEW TV programming that will determine the ladder match participants at Forbidden Door to determine the next TNT Champion.

The co-branded AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 pay-per-view edition is set for Sunday, June 30 at the UBS Arena on Long Island in New York. The current match card of the show following this week’s Dynamite goes as follows,

- AEW World Heavyweight Championship: Swerver Strickland vs. AEW International Champion Will Ospreay

- Ladder match for the vacant AEW TNT Championship: Participants TBA
