Bengaluru, February 1: The city of Phoenix, Arizona, will host the 32nd edition of the annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) on January 27, 2019, the WWE has announced.

The WWE chose a brand new venue in the form of the Chase Field Stadium. While the January 27 Royal Rumble will kick things off for Wrestlemania 35, there will be three additional events hosted that night.

The 31st Royal Rumble PPV, which concluded recently in Philadelphia, was a one-of-a-kind experience where two Royal Rumble matches were held on one night. For the first time ever, we have crowned a female Royal Rumble winner, who will get a championship opportunity at Wrestlemania 34.

The WWE has announced the venue for the 2019 event a year in advance to help the host city plan the event well and announce attractive travel packages for fans.

WWE executive vice president of special events, John Saboor, said he was excited to announce Phoenix as the host city. "We have an incredibly rich history and heritage of presenting WWE events in the Valley of the Sun. In many respects, this serves as an exciting opportunity to work with longstanding and new partners in Phoenix to create four nights of memories," he said.

Keeping up with tradition of the dual-brand PPV, the NXT Takeover event will be held on January 26, 2019, a day before the Royal Rumble. The post-Royal Rumble editions of Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live will be held on January 28 and January 29 respectively. All the three shows will be held at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix.

Generally, all the four shows, including the PPV, are hosted at the same venue. This time around, the PPV will be organized in a bigger venue whereas the other shows will take place in a different location with less capacity. WWE is expecting to sell around 40,000 tickets for the Royal Rumble PPV and an additional 15,000 each on the other televised episodes.

This will also mark the first time ever that the Royal Rumble PPV will be hosted at a baseball stadium.

Saboor added: “What’s exciting about hosting four consecutive nights … in downtown Phoenix is that the city will serve as an important point of appeal for the WWE universe. It’s another reason for our fans to descend early, stay late and spend more. It’s a very powerful synergy that’s created by the presentation of four consecutive nights.”
