Bengaluru, January 29: Last night we witnessed history being created in women’s wrestling as Asuka was the last woman left standing in the ring after the first-ever Royal Rumble match at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The expectations were very high in the night as WWE left no stone unturned to make this first-time contest a memorable affair with several former names and NXT names taking part in the match to fill up the 30 spots available.

To add hype to the contest, Stephanie McMahon was announced as a special commentator whereas Maria Menounos from E News was hired as the special ring announcer. These two names kicked off the historic match which was also the main event of the Royal Rumble night.

Sasha Banks from WWE Raw and Becky Lynch from WWE Smackcdown were the first two entrants in the contest with a plethora of names from the past joining them later in the ring. The surprise names included the likes of Molly Holly, Beth Phoenix, Jacqueline, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, The Bella Twins, Lita and Trish Stratus.

As you can see from the stats, Asuka was the last woman standing inside the ring. She eliminated Nikki Bella to win the historic match and head into Wrestlemania with title goal in mind.

But, her celebration was cut short when Ronda Rousey’s music hit the arena and the MMA star pointed at the Wrestlemania sign indicating that she wants a spot at the title. Immediately, WWE gave us an update that the former UFC Bantamweight Champion made a deal with the company which means that she too will be gunning for one of the championships at the biggest stage of the year.

The exciting Royal Rumble night closed with the four female athletes in the ring, leaving us to expect plenty more on WWE Raw where we would be updated about the women's championship picture.
