Clash at the Castle 2024: I Quit and Title Match announced for WWE PLE

As expected on SmackDown, the Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles II matchup over the WWE Championship has been made official for Clash at the Castle premium live event but it won't be just any regular match.

SmackDown kicked off, this week with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes being shown angry backstage after being attacked by AJ Styles, last week. General Manager Nick Aldis tried to calm him down but it wasn't enough.

Aldis then informed Rhodes that AJ was about to arrive at the arena and he also brought security to keep them separated. AJ arrived in a car with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and the security managed to keep them apart.

Cody then headed to the ring and called out AJ for a fight. Styles came out along with the security. AJ said he doesn't care what Cody wants, but he cares about what he wants, and that's the WWE Championship match at Clash at the Castle.

Rhodes agreed to give AJ the WWE Title match but he said it would be an "I Quit" match, which Styles should've said last week to confirm his retirement. Aldis was quick to make the match official at the PLE.

Cody started attacking the security to reach AJ but he was being held back. Taking the opportunity AJ jumped on him and took some blows on him to leave the champion in a fuming state.

It was also revealed during SmackDown that Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair will defend their Women's Tag Team Championship in a triple threat at Clash at the Castle in Scotland against Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark, and Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn.

On SmackDown, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill defeated Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell in a non-title match after which Baszler, Stark, Fyre, and Isla Dawn attacked the champions. The multi-woman matchup was thereby announced in a backstage segment.

The 2024 WWE Clash at the Castle premium live event is scheduled from the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday, June 15. The currently confirmed match card for the PLE following this week's SmackDown is given below:

  • WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
