CM Punk has been linked with a return to WWE after his contract with AEW was terminated last week following his involvement in a backstage incident at All In 2023 pay-per-view last month in London.
In a statement released by the company last week, AEW president Tony Khan had said he made the decision to fire Punk on his own and did so "in the best interests" of AEW's talent and staff.

Punk, who was previously under contract with WWE, made his AEW debut in 2021 after more than seven years out of wrestling. He returned from an injury in June as the face of AEW's new weekly Saturday show called Collision.
But within two months of his return, his contract with the All Elite Wrestling promotion has been terminated, ending his short stay at AEW. Now, the question among fans and experts seems to be if the 44-year-old will end his wrestling career or attempt to continue elsewhere.
During his stint with the WWE from 2005 to 2014, Punk had established himself as one of the faces of the company, holding world titles on five occasions. Although Punk did not leave WWE on good terms in 2014, it stands to reason that WWE could potentially be interested in a performer of his caliber.
And in a recent episode of "Strictly Business," WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff weighed in on what it would take for CM Punk to make a return to WWE.
"If I'm CM Punk and I wake up and have a conversation with myself. I just look at the clock and the calendar and I go, 'Wait a minute. I've got maybe three years left. I could really make a lot of money and go out on a high note, end my career on a positive note instead of this negative one.'" Bischoff was quoted as saying by Wrestling INC.
However, Bischoff added that Punk, who didn't leave WWE on good terms, may think he has enough money in the bank and opt to end his career. But the Hall of Famer feels it would be great for all involved if CM Punk returns to WWE.
"If Phil can have an honest conversation with Paul Levesque (Triple H) - Paul Levesque's a smart dude. I think if Paul Levesque were to truly believe Phil Brooks, then I think there's a shot. The situation, the environment would be a lot different in WWE than it was in AEW," Bischoff added.
"I believe it's all up to Phil Brooks (CM Punk) and how honest he's capable of being with himself. And what his goals are. He may have enough money in the bank after this last run to not give a f***.
"It could be really good. It could be great for WWE. It could be great for him if he's willing to do that. If he's not, then he's just going to fade away and be a 'cult' wrestling star and nobody will remember him 10 years from now."
While there are many backing CM Punk to make a return to the WWE, some superstars have been of an opinion that Punk is cancer and needs to stay away from the promotion. Also another Hall of Famer feels Punk should not return, likening him to another legend.
Kevin Nash discussed about Punk with Sean Oliver on Kliq THIS podcast and the WWE legend is heavily against the idea of bringing CM Punk back to WWE.
Nash likened Punk to The Ultimate Warrior, who was one of the most controversial figures in WWE, stating if he was was Vince McMahon or Triple H, he wouldn't entertain the return.
"Sorry dude. He's already put himself on the mantle right next to The Ultimate Warrior. Go shake the ropes buddy. You're punching fu*king Luke Perry's son. Sucker punching Luke Perry's son. You're lucky old man's not around or he'd have you murdered."
