John Cena’s WWE contract status ahead of his 2025 retirement tour

Within a few months from now, John Cena will likely feature heavily on WWE programming for one last time as part of his retirement tour from professional wrestling which also aligns with WWE’s move to Netflix.

Heading into the final time of his career, the 16-time world champion has been open in interviews about not competing in any further matches once he is done with his last match in the WWE which should come in later 2025.

However, John Cena was essentially given the status of the franchise player of the WWE almost two decades ago and he might just continue to be a brand ambassador for the company for global shows and media events.

In an interview with Club Shay Shay, the legendary WWE Superstar was asked whether he owns the rights to his name, in reference to Dwayne Johnson securing the rights to "The Rock" after taking an official spot on the TKO Board of Directors.

In response, Cena clearly stated that he is one of the significant champions of the WWE and he will be associated with them no matter what. The confirmation of re-signing a WWE contract ahead of the retirement tour also came via his below quotes,

"I am a champion of the brand, I love the company, it is my home, they are my family; even after 2025. I've already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family for the near, mid, and long-term future."

Speaking in the conversation with NFL Tight End Shannon Sharpe, John Cena also denied accepting himself to be the Greatest of All Time which the WWE often promotes during his appearances on TV.

Roman Reigns was rather plugged in by him to be the GOAT in the WWE as his undisputed title reign has caused “the best the business has ever been” for the company and the contributions continue following his SummerSlam return.
