Bengaluru, May 3: A week from now, a tournament will be underway to crown a new NXT Women's Champion at the upcoming premium live event-pay-per-view, NXT Battleground 2023 set to emanate within four weeks of time.
In the main event segment of this week's NXT, the former NXT Women's Champion Indi Hartwell came out and addressed speculations around her status after injury rumours started floating on the internet from last week onward.

Hartwell confirmed to have picked up the injury during her title defense at last week's Spring Breakin' 2023 edition in a Triple Threat Ladder Match against Tiffany Stratton and Roxanne Perez. While delivering a top rope jump, Tiffany landed on her knees causing the injury.
Hartwell left the match but she eventually came back to successfully defend the title in the hope of furthering her title reign. But then last Friday night during Draft Night One, she was called up to the Raw roster.
As a result, Hartwell officially relinquished the NXT Women's Title on NXT and informed that a new champion will be crowned at the upcoming Battleground PPV event scheduled for WWE's Saudi Arabia weekend.
A tournament will kick off next week on NXT's weekly programme to begin the process of crowning a champion. No participants for the tourney have been announced except for the fact that it would culminate at NXT Battleground PPV.
With that, this match became the first official match to be inserted into the newly reintroduced WWE Network/Peacock Specials set for later this month. NXT female stars also got involved in a brawl as they seemed eager to go into the event for this title shot.
Before vacating the title, Hartwell's reign lasted for 31 days. She won the title at NXT Stand & Deliver in a six-way ladder match. The short title run appeared to be a proper send-off for her before she enters the main roster.
For the time being, Hartwell is scheduled to feature on Raw, next Monday night in the post-Backlash edition if not this legit injury forces her to stay out of television for some time.
The 2023 NXT Battleground 2023 Premium Live Event has been confirmed to take place at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 28, marking the third PLE outing for WWE's third brand, this year.
Interestingly, on that same night, WWE's rival brand AEW will host their annual Double or Nothing pay-per-view event in Las Vegas. A day prior, WWE itself will conduct its first 2023 Saudi Arabia show, Night of Champions.
