NXT Battleground 2024: WWE to crown first-ever Women’s North American Champion

The long-waiting pledge of the NXT fans to crown the first-ever Women's North American Champion will become a reality at the next premium live event from the brand, Battleground set for next month.

In a massive announcement from the Night Two of NXT Spring Breakin' 2024, the general manager Ava informed that the inaugural Women's North American Champion will be decided in a ladder match at the Battleground PLE.

She further revealed that 12 Superstars will proceed to compete in 6 qualifying matches and the respective winners of these matches will advance to Battleground to compete for the NXT Women's North American Title in the ladder match.

Soon after the announcement, Jaida Parker, Sol Ruca, and Arianna Grace expressed their determination to win the championship. A brawl started as other female wrestlers from the locker room joined in to make the scene more chaotic.

Main roster star Michin was one of the competitors who declared herself for the combine that will begin on Tuesday's NXT episode in a promo session. It appears more Raw-SmackDown stars like Chelsea Green or Natalya could be part of the 12-woman tourney.

WWE originally announced the introduction of the new North American title for the NXT Women's Division at Stand & Deliver PLE on WrestleMania weekend. This one now turns out to be the first confirmed match for Battleground.

Speaking of Battleground, this PLE appears to be the first joint venture between WWE and UFC as it will take place on Sunday, June 9 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Battleground marks WWE's inaugural venture into the state-of-the-art 130,000-square-foot venue which has become synonymous with UFC Fight Night events, Dana White's Contender Series, and various other spectacles.

"We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and we are excited to bring Battleground to this world-class event and production facility in partnership with UFC," stated Shawn Michaels, WWE's Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative on Battleground emanating from UFC APEX.
