NXT Heatwave 2024: Championship match set at WWE PLE through battle royal

The latest episode of WWE NXT opened with a 25-man battle royal to determine the new number-one contender for the NXT Championship. Je'Von Evans won the match and he's going to Heatwave for his first NXT Title shot.

The final four participants in the battle royal included Evans, Dragon Lee, Shawn Spears, and TNA star Frankie Kazarian. After Kazarian and Lee got eliminated, Spears was the final elimination after Lee kicked him out of the ring.

Following the match, it was announced that Je'Von Evans will now challenge Trick Williams for the NXT Championship at the Heatwave premium live event set for next month. However, the lineup could change due to follow-up incidents.

Ethan Page complained to NXT General Manager Ava backstage about what had happened in the battle royal and that he was never eliminated. Rather, Oro Mensah entered the ring and brawled with Page to the back.

Page and Evans then featured in the main event of this week's NXT, with Page winning the bout which made his claim for another title shot even stronger. After the match, Trick Williams ended up having a brawl with Page.

Shawn Spears also came out to the ring for a two-on-one assault on Trick. In the end, Evans came off the top rope and downed all of them. The four NXT stars were seen lying on the floor with the NXT title in the middle to end the show.

In more news from NXT, Oba Femi's next challenger for the WWE NXT North American Championship will be Wes Lee. The two agreed to compete in a future title match but no date has been announced for the match.

Earlier this month at Battleground, Femi successfully defended his title against Lee and Joe Coffey in a triple threat, but Lee was never pinned. The current assumption is Femi vs. Lee would be added to Heatwave.

WWE NXT Heatwave 2024 premium live event takes place on Sunday, July 7 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as part of a triple-header weekend at the venue alongside Money in the Bank and SmackDown. Currently, the card has only one match on it:
