NXT Vengeance Day 2024: Women’s Champion overcomes triple threat at WWE PLE

Lyra Valkyria has essentially declared her will to join her country woman Becky Lynch to take forward the Irish warrior legacy. At NXT Vengeance Day, she was able to keep her word by overcoming the insurmountable odds.

Lyra Valkyria was put against one formidable opponent in her scheduled NXT Women's Championship defense. But that wasn't all as the NXT Women's Breakout Tournament contract was also cashed in. Ultimately, none of those challengers were successful.

In a Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women's Championship, Lyra Valkyria (c) defeated Lola Vice and Roxanne Perez to retain the title. Originally, Lyra was scheduled to defend against the former champion in Perez in a singles contest at Vengeance Day.

There was a moment in the match where Perez downed Lyra with her Pop Rox finisher after which Lola joined the match mid-way by cashing in her NXT Breakout Tournament contract after neutralizing Tatum Paxley.

In recent times, Paxley has tried to hinder Vice from using her contract on Lyra and Vengeance Day was no different. While trying to make her entry into the contest, Vice tried to prohibit her again only to be hit back.

Vice eventually entered the match to make it a triple threat but ultimately Paxley made the big difference in the match, taking out Perez to enable Lyra to take advantage and hit the Nightwish on Vice for the pin-fall win.

Thus, Vengeance Day 2024 marked the third overall title defense for Lyra with the NXT Women's Championship since winning the belt in late October. She beat Becky Lynch for the belt at Halloween Havoc.

Heading into Vengeance Day, the reigning champion defended it on two previous televised occasions, against Xia Li on a November episode of NXT in November, and again at New Year's Evil in January against Blair Davenport.

As for Lola Vice, she got the golden ticket to become a champion by winning the Breakout Tournament final over Kelani Jordan after toppling names like Dani Palmer and Karmen Petrovic in the preliminary rounds.
