Bengaluru, August 25: The championship picture on Smackdown Live took an abrupt turn after Baron Corbin lost the Money in the Bank contract. He was supposed to be the new champion ifor the fall. But, the promising superstar's future is in jeopardy after the failed attempt at the WWE Championship.
It was quite a shocking move from the WWE creative since Baron was said to be the future of the company. The fans and the critiques were doubting WWE Creative idea of burying a promising talent like Corbin. There was a huge fan backlash once this decision came to fruition.
In a recent report from The Dirty Sheets Podcast, the reason behind this idea was discussed. According to them, WWE officials were not happy with the reactions that was brought by Corbin. This continued for a while until he started getting the push.
Hence, the creative team decided to call off his push in the roster. From now onwards, he will not be involved in the title picture, anymore. This extends the championship run of Jinder Mahal who was rumoured to lose the title at Summerslam.
As per the earlier plan for Summerslam, Nakamura was set to defeat Jinder to win the championship. Corbin was about to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase and leave the PPV with the title in hand. This would have also extended the ongoing feud between Corbin and Nakamura.
In case you did not notice, Jinder and Nakamura never heated up their rivalry prior to Summerslam. This was due to the fact that the creative team did not want this particular feud to grow. But, since Nakamura Vs Corbin did not get the required attention, it was withdrawn.
So, Jinder will continue his championship feud with Nakamura till the next PPV, Hell in a Cell. Even the finish of the title match was also changed just hours before the match. Jinder was originally planned to retain his title via disqualification.
But, he earned tremendous praise from the New York media during the Summerslam weekend which led to a clean win. A distraction from the Singh Brothers allowed him to pin the Artist. This also ended Nakamura's undefeated streak on the main roster.
