Revealed: How the name ‘Goldberg’ came in WCW and WWE

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Goldberg has been one of the most iconic figures in the history of pro-wrestling.

He's been one of that handful of names who possesses the superhuman persona throughout his career. He returned to WWE, last year to resume just where he left off.

Now, WWE is not the place where he started off his career. Rather, it was WCW, the biggest rival of WWE in the 90s where he became the franchise of the company and gradually became one of the behemoths that the wrestling world has ever seen.

Former WWE superstar Sean Waltman better known as X-Pac revealed an interesting story as from where did the name 'Goldberg' came.

The D-generation X member appeared on the Tomorrow Show where he discussed the career of late Nicole Bass, Kendall Jenner wearing NWO shirt and the origin of the name of Goldberg.

He said that before the Myth's debut on WCW Nitro, the management was searching for an appropriate name for him.

They were not sure even the day of his debut as what his in-ring name would be. The creative then preferred to churn the part Goldberg from his real life name, Bill Goldberg and decided to go with it.

Previously, X-Pac even heard that the former WCW franchise would be given the name, 'The Hybrid'. But then the name Goldberg was retained as the creative instructed to make the name work. He did just that in style and became one of the biggest stars of all time.

Goldberg is scheduled to feature in the main event of Wrestlemania 33 against Brock Lesnar. The process of bringing him and Lesnar both was started months ago by Vince McMahon.

Goldberg defeats Lesnar at Survivor Series in a squash match.

He will cost him again at the Royal Rumble match.

He will become the Universal champion before Wrestlemania.

Brock Lesnar defeats him in a title match at Mania.

With this plan still intact, Goldberg's stint in the WWE should end at the showcase of immortals when he faces Lesnar. His run has worked like magic for Vince McMahon and co. and he might return later this year.
