Bengaluru, August 7: It was quite surprising to witness John Cena digesting a loss against Shinsuke Nakamura and lose the WWE Championship opportunity.

Previously, the franchise player was bound to feature in the main event pictures in the time of these bigger PPV occasions. But, the tradition is likely to get wiped out.

This clearly indicates the fact that WWE is willing to move forward without 'Super Cena' being around the championship picture. Rather, the emerging superstars will be competing for the prime titles present on both Raw and Smackdown shows.

But, the question remains that who is going to be John Cena's opponent at the biggest event of the summer. Apparently, the creative has given a hint to that once Smackdown Live went off the air, this week.

Going by a report from 'wrestlingINC.com', Baron Corbin will challenge Cena in a match at Summerslam.

On the main event of the show, John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura squared off to determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship. The latter one emerged as the winner to set up a title match against Jinder Mahal.

Nakamura was celebrating inside the ring with his music playing when Corbin decided to show up and delivered a sneak attack on him.

However, John Cena did not leave the scene and came back in the aid of Nakamura. As per footages published on WWE Network, the 16-time world champion put Corbin through the commentary table to end the segment.

Apparently, this angle will be continued in the coming two weeks prior to Summerslam leading to a match between the Cenation Leader and the Lone Wolf. We might officially have this match on the card, next week.

Considering that Cena will be moving to Raw following Summerslam, chances are high that he will digest another big loss at the PPV. This will be a great way to highlight a younger talent like Corbin, who is considered as the future of the company.

This is the same reason that the 16-time world champion lost his match against Nakamura via a clean pinfall. After the match, he raised his opponent's hand like a veteran. This indicates that Nakamura will act as a marquee player on Smackdown Live for months to come.
