Bengaluru, December 1: John Cena returned to WWE TV for a one-off appearance at the Survivor Series PPV as he was called up to be a part of Team Smackdown on that night. The commissioner of the blue brand, Shane McMahon announced him as the fifth member of his team at the very last moment.

This year, the officials planned an all-star lineup for the traditional tag team match at Survivor Series and hence the marquee player of the company returned to add more star-power to the match. He was also the only individual with the most accomplishments in comparison to the other stars on the Smackdown team.

However, The Cenation Leader was not utilized fully in the match. Considering the big name he is, it was expected that he would stick around till the very end of the match, but, he was the third member to be eliminated in the match. An Angle Slam followed by a Coup De Grace from Balor was enough to put him out of the contest.

Reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested that the reason behind his less utilization was due to his role as a part-timer and also due to the fact he was not involved in any of the storylines leading to the match. So, there were not many surprised by his elimination.

Rather, the creative heads wanted to focus on the upcoming storylines on both the shows. This is why Braun Strowman was the focal point throughout the match who eliminated Nakamura, Roode and Randy Orton single-handedly. On the other hand, John Cena will not be part of any show for at least a couple of months from now.

However, the updates from The 434 Facebook page suggests that a big match is waiting for him upon his return, where he is expected to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble PPV. Previously, Finn Balor was supposed to take that place. But, as the creative team do not see him as a main event attraction they opted for the 16-time World champion instead.

So, we might witness a renewal of the feisty rivalry between the two part-time players of the company.

For now, John Cena is being advertised to return in a house show on December 26th at Madison Square Garden and his opponent will be Roman Reigns on that night which is an indication that he will be part of the flagship show.
