Kevin Owens’ pledge to become the new face of the WWE could finally be fulfilled at the returning Saturday Night’s Main Event show set for next month that’s just two weeks from the annual Survivor Series premium live event.

On WWE’s official website and social media, it’s been confirmed that Cody Rhodes will put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Kevin Owens at the 2024 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer previously reported last month that Rhodes vs. Owens was one of two championship matches planned for the December 14 show in New York that’s coming up with an old-school look and feel.

Last night, WWE officially announced the match with the following comment, “There’s no love lost between these two. Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night’s Main Event!”

Rhodes and Owens have been on the same page despite the two colliding for the WWE title at Clash at the Castle in June. Owens finally turned on Rhodes in a post-show segment at Bad Blood in October for which WWE never released the footage.

The two further had a confrontation on last week’s episode of SmackDown where Rhodes agreed to face Owens, right there, or in Owens’ home country of Canada at Survivor Series, or at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Reports from Wrestling Observer also confirmed that the other match planned for Saturday Night’s Main Event is Gunther defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against former champion Damian Priest. However, that match has since been announced for the WWE Survivor Series.

Saturday Night’s Main Event originally aired from 1985 to 1991 on NBC before moving to FOX in 1992. WWE revived it in March 2006 after Raw returned to USA Network under NBCUniversal, and it continued until August 2008.

Now, the 2024 Saturday Night’s Main Event is returning with a live broadcast on NBC/Peacock on December 14 at 8 PM ET from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York. The two matches set for the show are given below,

– Tournament Final to crown the inaugural Women’s United States Champion: TBD vs. TBD
