Saturday Night’s Main Event: Possible Main Event Revealed For Returning WWE Show

A classic old-school era special, Saturday Night's Main Event will return to WWE programming by the end of this year via a deal signed between WWE and NBCUniversal during their TV deal renewal for SmackDown on USA Network.

Thus, Saturday Night's Main Event will be hosted as a quarterly special airing live on both NBC and Peacock. The first one will air from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York, on Saturday, December 14.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided multiple updates regarding the upcoming show, which should fulfill the empty premium live event slot from WWE's main roster for the month of December and it would essentially produce a PLE-quality match card.

Regarding the headliner match of the 2024 Saturday Night's Main Event, Dave Meltzer of The Observer stated that the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens is a possibility for that slot.

Rhodes is currently booked for Crown Jewel in a match against the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther for the Crown Jewel Championship while Owens is still out of active competition in the WWE amid his storyline suspension.

This came after Owens attacked Rhodes after Bad Blood PLE and Meltzer had the following to offer regarding their match at Saturday Night's Main Event, "While not 100 percent, we're told it looks like the first Rhodes vs. Owens title match would be on that show."

Meltzer also hinted that Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens is also a possibility for SNME given how WWE wants to present this match as a "shoot fight" and it should perfectly match the theme of the upcoming Peacock/NBC Specials.

For the time being, Orton has requested that the match against Owens be held at Crown Jewel, but the Prizefighter has yet to be reinstated on the active roster so that it can be held at the Saudi Arabia PLE.

No official announcement regarding matches or superstars' involvement has been made regarding Saturday Night's Main Event but the likes of Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair, Seth Rollins, Liv Morgan alongside Cody Rhodes are being featured on the poster.
