SummerSlam 2024: Is WWE changing lineups for scheduled top PLE matches?

Emanating from a gigantic stadium, SummerSlam 2024 is expected to be a night to be remembered forever by professional wrestling fans. The biggest event of the summer is coming with a packed card of matches alongside other fan festivities.

One of the top matches of SummerSlam will witness the Intercontinental Championship to be on the line where the champion Sami Zayn will defend in a rematch against Bron Breakker. Many believe this match lineup could change due to recent happenings.

On the July 15 episode of Monday Night Raw, Ilja Dragunov faced Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Title and that match ended via disqualification after Breakker interfered and cut the two performers in halves with earth-shattering spears.

Going by the current speculations, a triple threat is projected for SummerSlam including Dragunov which may not be the case. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE's current plan remains the same and that's to go forward with the original lineup.

Sami Zayn will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Bron Breakker in a singles match despite Ilja Dragunov being on the hunt for the mid-card title on Raw, "It's still Sami Zayn and Bron Breaker for the show."

Another concerned match lineup for SummerSlam 2024 is CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre which is rumoured to become a triple threat involving Seth Rollins. This comes after a heated exchange of words between Punk and Rollins on the July 8 episode of Raw.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer further stated that the original lineup is 'probable.' Chances of Rollins getting added to the lineup are also there but as of now, it's not been planned to be a three-way match.

"The Punk (vs. McIntyre) match is 'probable'. Rollins will probably be involved in that match but I was told it was not gonna be a three-way, or at least as of six days ago, it was not gonna be a three-way."

WWE SummerSlam 2024 premium live event takes place at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, August 3. While the Intercontinental Title Match has been announced, Punk vs. McIntyre is yet to be made official.
