Superstar Spectacle 2023: Update on The Great Khali’s appearance at WWE India Live Event

Bengaluru, August 21: Ending a long gap of almost six years, WWE is returning to India for a live event that's being touted to be Superstar Spectacle 2023 edition set from the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium (Gachibowli Indoor Stadium), Hyderabad, India, on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Top WWE Superstars from the Monday Night Raw brand are being advertised to appear for the show. Being a Friday night event, it's evident that Smackdown Superstars won't make it to India as they would have to attend WWE TV recording.

Apart from the red brand superstars, it appears that WWE could be bringing back one of the biggest pro-wrestling icons in India for the live event, The Great Khali which must be adding more star power into it.

To promote Superstar Spectacle 2023, one of the veteran female WWE Superstars Natalya had a recent chat with Riju Dasgupta where she first dropped the notion of meeting The Great Khali while travelling to India.

"When Khali [was in WWE], we would travel together, and anywhere we went, somebody would approach Khali, and they would be like, 'Sir, we know you from this or that or WWE or The Longest Yard,'" Natalya stated.

"It didn't matter if it was at a Denny's, it didn't matter if it was at an airport, he would stop for every one. He's very gracious and grateful for his fans, and he's a very good friend, and I'd love to see him back."

There's no clarification on WWE's part whether they're interested to have the seven-footer behemoth at Superstar Spectacle but that move will make the Indian fans happy as they're fans of the nostalgia acts.

Entering the WWE TV picture in 2006, The Great Khali rose to prominence in his career by winning the World Heavyweight Championship, the very next year after Edge vacated the title due to injury.

Feuding against WWE's top superstars like The Undertaker, Kane, Batista, John Cena, and more established Khali's name in the circuit. The stint continued until 2014 when his contract with the WWE was over.

For a one-off occasion, The Great Khali returned to TV at WWE Battleground PPV in 2017 while his last match in WWE took place over 5 years ago, at WWE's Greatest Royal Rumble 2018 premium live event in Saudi Arabia.

Alongside many more surprise entrants, Khali entered the 50-man Royal Rumble match. After lasting in the match for about a minute, he was eliminated by Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley. In 2021, WWE inducted him into the Hall of Fame.
