In the main event segment of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes said he was coming for Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship following his Royal Rumble 2024 win but that match won't happen at WrestleMania 40.
Cody unexpectedly gave his WrestleMania 40 main event spot to The Rock which resulted in a major backlash on social media, as there were hardcore fans who wanted Cody to finish his story at WrestleMania XL.

The latest backstage news has arrived regarding how the last-minute changes have been around the WrestleMania main event. According to PWInsider, former WWE Head Writer Brian Gewirtz will be The Rock's representative in WWE's creative process moving forward.
The report claims that Gewirtz will also attend major shows, possibly to offer as a contingency plan ("Plan B") if WWE owner Endeavor decides to shift WWE's direction and choose a creative team to back things up for The Rock in the future.
Fightful Select reported that not only The Rock pushed for the match against Roman Reigns to happen at this year's 'Mania but also the belief is that he's pushing for himself to be the man who finally defeats The Tribal Chief.
There's a belief that The Rock advocated for the main event spot at WrestleMania 40 as some of the financial incentives due to this huge match will lead to specific milestones, such as his significant $30 million stock payday.
It has also been suggested that The Rock pushed for the match with Roman Reigns to happen sooner as it would be a significant attraction for the company in a much bigger way than earlier expected.
Plus, CM Punk will miss WrestleMania 40 due to an injury while controversies will also keep Brock Lesnar away from the WWE for the time being. So, The Rock's appearances will cover up those star power's absence.
Considering injuries or other circumstances, the likelihood of Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes becoming a reality at WrestleMania XL was low as the key figures in the WWE management would eventually entertain The Rock's ideas, anyway.
