Top WWE Smackdown Superstar possibly out of action for 3 months

Bengaluru, August 30: Bianca Belair, one of the top female WWE Superstars from the Smackdown roster has been dealing with a knee injury as seen on recent TV episodes. Reports now suggest that it's a kayfabe way for WWE to keep her off TV.

Belair first injured her knee during the Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women's Championship against Asuka and Charlotte Flair at Summerslam 2023 after getting bounced on steel stairs by Flair during the match.

There was a point when The EST of WWE was taken out of the match due to the injury reason but she eventually reentered the match and pinned Asuka to become the new WWE Women's Champion.

Her overall third title win lasted for just a few minutes as IYO SKY successfully cashed in her Money in the Bank contract to snatch the gold from her and thereby start a new feud between the two.

On the August 18 episode of SmackDown, Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair picked up a win over Damage CTRL's SKY and Bayley. But DAMAGE CTRL attacked Belair, backstage, where they further injured her knee.

According to an update from Fightful Select, Belair is headed to a much-needed vacation, and this injury set up her for that. While there's no confirmed update on the hiatus, it could last up to as long as three months.

"Belair was planned for some time off, and was factored in creatively. However, we've heard differing things on how long she could be out, ranging from a few weeks (under a month) to possibly three months."

It should be noted that Belair is that rare talent in the WWE who possesses the record of clinching WWE Smackdown/Raw Women's Championships on two back-to-back Wrestlemanias in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Afterward, she ended up receiving "constant praise within WWE during her title reign for the insane media schedule and community events she would take part in." For a long time, WWE has also utilized her as a top attraction on TV.

With IYO SKY being built as the next top star of the women's division as the reigning champion on Smackdown, this could be the right time for the former champion to enjoy a break and come back stronger with a new mojo.

It's important to emphasize that the knee injury is part of the storyline and it's not an actual injury. Reports also indicated that WWE has been planning a character alteration for Belair which could happen when she shows up, next on TV.
