Bengaluru, August 16: Baron Corbin had won this year's Money in the Bank match that guaranteed him to get a shot at the WWE Championship in future. This is a trump card for any of the WWE Superstars who won the coveted prize in the past to take the shortest route and win the most prestigious prize in sports entertainment.
Unfortunately for Corbin, the timing turned out to be wrong and he lost the opportunity on last night's episode of Smackdown Live. He decided to come out interfering the main event match between John Cena and Jinder Mahal. By attacking the franchise player of the company, he led to a disqualification to the match.
The WWE Champion was still lying down after Cena delivered an AA to him off the second rope. So, he did not hesitate to cash it in big time on the champion at that very moment. But, he seemed to have forgotten that John Cena was still present ringside.
His presence provided a distraction for The Lone Wolf in the impromptu championship match and Jinder Mahal capitalized. The champion retained his title by rolling up Corbin to get the pinfall. Much to the disgust of Corbin fans, he is no longer a Money in the Bank contract holder.
Only twice in the history of the WWE, this has happened that the briefcase was not cashed in successfully. John Cena was the first one in 2012 when he decided to invoke a match against CM Punk via the contract. The second time it was Damien Sandow who failed to win the title match against Cena, himself.
Incidentally, The Cenation Leader has now been involved in all the failed Money in the Bank cash-ins. The surprising incident left the WWE Universe talking as you can see their reactions below:
