WrestleMania 40: Fans Go Wild As Cody Rhodes Ends Roman Reigns 1316-Day Title Reign In Crazy Ending

WrestleMania 40 had one of the craziest ends as fans went wild after Cody Rhodes ended the 1316-day reign as a champion record held by Roman Reigns in the main event of night 2 at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday (April 7).

With the odds stacked against him following the loss in the tag team match on night 1 of the show of shows, Rhodes was forced to face Reigns for the title in a Bloodline rules matchup.

Rhodes had teamed up with Seth Rollins to take on the team of The Rock and Roman Reigns, but they came up short in the main event of night 1, going down to the Bloodline.

And the son of the WWE Hall of Famer stepped up to defeat the Undisputed Universal Champion with an assist from several superstars from current roster and yesteryear, leaving fans in a frenzy.

While The Rock and Solo Sikoa came out to the aid of their head of the table in the Bloodline, Rhodes had the backing of Seth Rollins initially until John Cena and legendary Undertaker also showed up to aid the American Nightmare in his title quest.

John Cena, Undertaker and Rollins kept The Rock and Solo Sikoa out of the way as Rhodes hit a double Cross Rhodes finisher to pin Reigns to win the title, ending an emotional night for many.

Following the win Rhodes was joined in the ring by his mom Michelle Rubio and wife Brandi as the celebrations continued with several other superstars like Randy Orton, CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn among many others.

The new champion, who lost to Roman Reigns in the WrestleMania 39 main event, then credited Bruce Pritchard and Triple H for his return to the promotion. Rhodes then shared hugs with several other personnel including Michael Cole as the coverage went off air.

Earlier in the night, two other titles changed hands as Drew McIntyre held on to the World Heavyweight title for just a few minutes following his victory over Seth Rollins as Money in the Bank holder Damian Priest cashed in and won the title inside 9 seconds.

Also, there was a new WWE Women's Champion as Bayley defeated Iyo Sky. In other matches, Logan Paul defended the United States title in a triple threat contest against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton.
