WrestleMania 40: Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes Set To Main Event As WWE Announce Title Fight For Show Of Shows

WrestleMania 40 main event was officially announced after the men's Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes chose to challenge Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows duringt the face off press conference at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ahead of the two-day WrestleMania XL event, scheduled to be staged at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, WWE hosted a face off show featuring some big names from the promotion, including the legendary Rock, who triggered a rumour around the event with his appearance on last month's Raw.

The Rock made a surprise appearance on Raw after Rumble, and at the end of his promo, he brought up the topic of "The Head of the Table," which is Reigns' nickname, leading to speculation that WWE was setting up the much anticipated match between the real-life cousins.

Despite teasing a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns, 2024 men's Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes challenged Reigns for the main-event match at WrestleMania 40 in April during a WrestleMania kickoff event in Las Vegas on Thursday (February 8) night.

Rhodes spent days mulling over whether he'd face Reigns or WWE Heavyweight Champion, Seth "Freakin" Rollins at the Show of Shows. Rhodes confirmed that he'd be facing the Tribal Chief, angering and insulting The Rock who wanted a match with Reigns.

This led to a confrontation between Rhodes and The Rock, who slapped the Royal Rumble winner in the melee. Reigns, however, chose the Rock as his opponent in WrestleMania in the same kickoff show. It will be interesting to see what WWE does to the storyline now.

How will WWE handle Rock, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes WrestleMania XL dilemma?

While the Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes title clash has been made official, the Rock is definitely going to be involved in some capacity. The WWE could use the legend turned Holllywood superstar as a guest enforcer or a special guest referee.

Or the WWE could make this a triple threat match like many have reported since the People's champion teased about a potential chance of main eventing Raw last month. There is still two months' time to the event. So, anything can happen in that period.

The fans didn't like the idea of a Roman Reigns vs The Rock fight, but may warm to the idea if there is another twist added to this storyline in the days to come like a stipulation or introduction of another legend in the mix.

With Elimination Chamber in Perth set for February 24, there is also chance of settling a Rhodes vs Rock rivalry in the upcoming premium live event. But the chances are slim as WWE would like to reserve a big name like The Rock for an event of the claibre of WrestleMania.

As it stands, two fights have been finalized for the WrestleMania XL, while one other fight will be made official after the Elimination Chamber 2024. Here is a look at the WrestleMania card:
