We're officially on the Road to WrestleMania 40 following Royal Rumble, this past Saturday night and the spree of matches for the biggest event of the year are falling in line starting from this week's SmackDown.
The Rock confronted Roman Reigns on the latest episode of SmackDown to affirm that the dream bout will eventually happen at WrestleMania 40. Apart from this one, the first women's division match for the PLE was also set up.

In a backstage segment of SmackDown, WWE Women's Champion IYO SKY told Asuka and Kairi Sane that Bayley won't be their allies any longer. This comes after Bayley wanted to make her WrestleMania decision on the blue brand.
Bayley and Damage CTRL then came to the ring. Bayley thanked Damage CTRL for helping her. As Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley was watching the segment from backstage, Bayley teased going in a different direction instead of choosing IYO SKY as her opponent.
Bayley then changed her mind and confronted IYO SKY and called her out for talking trash about her behind the back in Japanese. Bayley said that her focus always was to get Damage CTRL to the top of the women's roster.
But then IYO turned her back on her. Asuka and Kairi then attacked Bayley from behind and IYO joined in the mugging. Bayley had a pipe hidden behind the steel ring steps which she utilized to hit them back.
Bayley then solidified her babyface turn by going after them and then finally chose IYO as her WrestleMania 40 opponent. Soon after, Bayley vs. IYO SKY for the WWE Women's Title was made official for WrestleMania 40.
Bayley won the Women's Royal Rumble 2024 edition that went down at the Royal Rumble premium live event, last Saturday night to earn an opportunity for a championship shot as per her choice.
This win essentially confirmed that the Damage CTRL leader will eventually fall apart from the group as teased in recent times on SmackDown programming. Finally, the turn-on went down with the confirmation of this first WrestleMania 40 match.
